Semnostachya menglaensis (Nuo Mi Xiang in China) is a rare plant indig enous to the tropical rainforest in the south of Yunnan Province, on the Laotian border. When the leaves are crushed, a characteristic smell of basmati rice develops. These miniature tea cakes are made using this herb in layers with shou pu-er tea leaves.
